In preparation for our predicted 3 inches of snow, school was released early!! Sure we will take an early dismissal day!! I was pumped! We all arrived home around noon, changed into our warmest comfy clothes and prepared to wait for the snow! As I hunkered down on my couch, this is the weather forecast that I was being given. Looked pretty legit to me!! So like any smart momma would do, we invited friends over to wait for the best play date of 2014 to begin!!!!
The kids were actually more patient that the adults! Thanks to DVR I was able to catch up on the episodes of the Bachelor I had missed and see the latest episodes of the pointless reality tv shows I find myself watching! The kids played so beautifully and would come down stairs hoping every time to see the falling snow!
The men arrived home and Jennifer and I were anxious for the little flurries we were finally seeing to turn into blizzard size flakes! But us South Carolinians are easily excited by snow so we did what any sane person in our state would do, we bundled up the kids and ourselves and headed out into the flurries! There might not have been a ton of snow, but I assure you it was bitter cold!
Slowly but surely, the snow was sticking and beginning to leave it's mark on our backyard!
Everyone was all smiles as the flurries continued to fall!
Well almost everyone! Poor Reese just did not want to take pictures to capture the Snowpocalypse of the South!! We gave it a good shot but bless that baby girl just wanted her momma!!
Addie and Wylie were two peas in a pod playing with the snow in the playhouse! It was so could, I have no idea how they were holding that snow! Those gloves are paper thin but the more snow they could hoard up, the better it was!!
Ben was just happy, happy, happy!! Free to run wild and scream as loud as he wanted ! The kid was so excited to see the snow!!
I know we should have laughed but Jennifer and I got a good laugh watching Addie ride the swing in her own way! She didn't seem to want our help so the good mommas that we are stood around ready for her to fall but giggling in the mean time!
Reese finally quit crying long enough to enjoy a few minutes in the snow!
While the pictures might make this event look like an hour long event, it was actually probably only a 20 minute event! Once the momma's toes started to feel hypothermic, we rounded up the kids and did the next best thing!!
Indoor Garage Play!! (With which the kids were excited about!!)
The snow continued to fall as we tucked the little loves into bed!
Bright and early Bubs and I were being reminded of the snow outside and repeatedly being asked if it was time to go out and play in it?!!
Of course!! So the Required Snow Picture was snapped and off they went!
Bess was 100% the snow bunny! She played longer than any other child did! She loved everything about it! She was never cold and never wanted to come inside! She even decided by herself eating it was absolutely wonderful!!
Ben was exactly what I had hoped he would be in the snow! Thrilled!! His little laugh was from the heart and was genuine! He was just curious about it all! He loved knocking it off things, he loved throwing it and he loved racing his cars through it!! He couldn't get enough of this "snow" on our porch!!
I should have known what was coming with Wylie! At the beach, Wylie loves to dig in the sand. She fills every bucket she can with sand and for hours can entertain herself making castles, digging holes and walking back and forth to the water to refill her bucket. While it wasn't sand, my little girl did the same thing with the snow! Wylie just wanted to build as many Snow Castles as she could and was extremely territorial of her area of the porch! She worked so hard on them and also on the large pot of "snow soup" she created for me out of a flowerpot! She was very thorough , detailed and precise in everything she did with her snow creations! Go figure!!
"Snow Soup"
I wish I could have gotten Charlie to slow down a bit but the boy was here there and everywhere for his snow play! Snapping pictures of him proved to be challenging! While he does love the snow, he was a bit distracted this time! He was quick to get out yet quick to get in!! Once his fingers were cold, he was peeling off clothes at the back door to sit on the couch with his blanket! Not that I blame him, but I was a bit surprised!! When he was outside, he had fun. It was just quick fun. Then to the couch he went!!!
It is pretty much a sure bet that there will be smiles and giggles if there is a snow day! However with the good, there always comes a little bad!
Bless Bess' heart. She is famous for face planting in the snow! While I am probably the worst mother in America, I now have several of these pictures and could pretty much make a collection of them. So, just like old times, Bess again somehow face planted in our 1.5 inches of snow. Not sure how it happened but I have a sneaky suspicion her older brother had a bit to do with it judging by the long drawn out story I got from him. Anyways... here is Bess' ... face plant and all!!
Another one of my favorite snapped pics of the day is of these two sweet sisters! Couldn't have been happier with the Snow Day!!
While it wasn't much of a snow, these little loves thought it was heaven!! They were so happy to have the little bit of flurries we had to play in !!
So thankful we had a warm house to come inside to after our fun to warm up with also!! We might not have been "snowed in" but we certainly have acted like it and done a whole lot of nothing!! Except pajamas, movies and the many trips outside to play!!
Thank You Snowpocalyspe 2014! The Bailey Bunch had a great time!!
