Together we memorized three book that I know I can say from memory still!
I love to read and it was important to me that my babies love to read too. It still is important.
However, my heart is so excited yet has a touch of bittersweet in it. Wylie is becoming a reader! This makes me smile the biggest smile and feel so proud of her! There is nothing like a good book! I can already see she is going to be a beach reader, a rainy day reader and a lover of children's book no matter what her age!
From her beginning days of preschool, Wylie has always held her books up in the "teacher hold" to conduct read alouds to her babies! She never knew the words but you would have never known. She was serious about her story and would call you out should you not pay attention! She even forced the pleasure of her read alouds on her brother! I loved it!
This school year, I have seen Wylie the reader take shape and I am in amazement! Currently she is obsessed with finding her sight words. Be it a Red Bowl menu, a church bulletin, a random road sign or her bedroom books- this child is alert!
Since the discovery and love for sight words has become a major component of Wylie's daily life, each day when I get home from school, she asks if she can use my "blue computer" to read to me. So on the computer turns and off my little reader goes!
She loves, loves, loves to read her online books to me and she loves to find new words that she learns and share them with me. I stand back amazed at the connections she makes with her words, the excitement she has for wanting to read and the drive she has for seeking out how those words surround her in the millions of books we have in this house! As a momma, I am loving watching my baby at this milestone in her life. As a teacher, I am all about this!!
Yet I still ask...
WHERE IS THE BABY IN THE BOUNCY SEAT?!?!?
I am pretty sure tomorrow she will be walking around with her copy of Watership Down or Jane Eyre!?!?
Lord, help me to remember to stop and appreciate every little moment of these precious babies lives! Thank you for their excitement, passion and curiosity!
