What are the words I want to write that will always help me remember the innocence of the prayers I heard tonight? I don’t know that there are any words perfect enough for me to jot down so that in 30 years I have the same feelings that overcame me tonight. Every night, I say prayers with Charlie and Wylie leaving them parts to fill in. (Bess just copies whatever Wylie says!) We start out the same way every night- Thank you God for …. and then we all our family members. Once that is over, they start filling in the blanks with things they are thankful for.
As I was cuddled up in Charlie’s toddler size bed with him, this is what I heard…
“Dear God, Thank you for Mommy, Daddy, Charlie, Wylie, Bess and Ben. Thank you for Jesus and thank you for Foo Foo. Please help Ben’s new teeth. Amen.”
I mean… Jesus and Foo Foo… is that not the most precious thing or am I just being the sentimental mommy right now?!
And then there is Wylie who many times get very caught up in thanking the Lord above for quite a many foods she would dare not touch (ex: sausage and bacon!) - which makes me giggle every time!
Tonight’s prayer though was a sweet prayer spoken from the mouth of a 3 year old.
“Dear God, Thank you for Mommy, Daddy, Charlie, Wylie, Bess and Ben. Thank you for Jesus, my princess scooter, my princess flashlight and honey buns. Please help Charlie to clean his room. Amen.”
And although I was grateful that my love had said her prayers and how sincere and earnest she was in her thoughts to the Lord, I couldn’t help but giggle. Such innocence. It just struck me- the things that matter to them and the preciousness of their childlike nature.
I can honestly and truthfully say, I love hearing their sweet little voices say their prayers each night. And I know the Lord above hears them too. I just wonder if he giggles when he gets thanked for princess scooters and Foo Foos?!
