You Win Some, You Lose Some

I suppose my most recent blog jinxed us.  Either that or every blasted fish big or small decided to take a mini vacation of their own and leave the Gulf Stream behind!

We were up and at em’ while the moon was still in the sky

Even a dear ol’ friend decided to get in on the action of the fish!  So with coffee in hand and our biceps ready to reel those big fishies in… we were off!

Everything Saturday morning was just so calm and pretty.  While most everyone was snuggled warmly in their beds, you would see a devoted soul here and there heading out on their own journey for the day!

Our fearless leaders, Big Ray and RayRay arrived ready to take us into the beautiful blue waters!

Anxiously, we boarded the boat ready for the fun ahead and headed out to sea!!

The ride out was a chilly one but we all survived the splashes of cool water and nippy wind! Finally we arrived at what appeared to be as good a spot as any!  Time to get serious!

And then… someone realized they forgot their sealegs!  Bless his heart.  This is how the love of my life spent the majority of his morning on a boat 40 miles off the coast of North Carolina.  Not a place to go, not a thing he could, not a quick cure to be found… and there the rest of us sat, just feeling sorry for the fella and having a cold beverage while we watched!!

Since I could be of no help to the love of my life, all there was for me to do was look around and patiently wait on the mack daddy fish I had prayed for to arrive.  So I sat and only had one of the most beautiful things to look at…

Seriously the bluest blue water I have ever been around.  Not like the Caribbean blue, but the most gorgeous blue ever… I was completely amazed and could have stared at it forever!  Who knew Gulf Stream water was so pretty!  Well now we do!

Occasionally, our dear friend would rally and shift his location on the boat.  Still not feeling so good and still no fish to be found!

So… we waited some more.  We found weed lines where hopes of bait fish and big fish quickly were put to rest.  Our fearless leaders stood on the boat sides to peer over the water looking for …. (well I don’t know what they were looking for but they seemed to know what they were doing!)

Sadly, the biggest highlight of our day on the waves came from

boat radion

yes… the boat’s dispatch radio system.  We all listened to a horrific incident that was occuring 27 miles out.  A poor man who had been diving was experiencing what  seemed to be a heart attack.  We were glad to hear/learn this poor man stayed strong for a good while before he was rescued by  a helicopter in the middle of the ocean.

Once that was over, it was back to watching our poles in hopes of the slightest even the most gentle nudge for a fish.  At this point, big, small, mutant, sickly… I think we would have taken it!   Unfortunately though, this is exactly how our rods stayed ALL DAY LONG!  Isn’t that just pitiful, because don’t they look like great fun to get to use!  My biceps were so ready for them!

But after arriving on the water at 6 that morning, at 2:30 that afternoon, we all 5 hung our heads in defeat and headed back to land.  No fish in hand.

But we did have one friend who was able to perk up !DSC_0296

So, while I didn’t catch that super big fish I so hoped to catch, I did see the most beautiful water ever, get a lot of sunshine on my pale self and spent a Saturday in great company!

Until Next Time Big Fishies! (Because I will be back!)

First off can't believe you have already blogged about your weekend trip you just arrived home from only a few hours ago. Aren't you suppose to be doing laundry and getting ready for a day of fun filled teaching??? I only work 3 nights a week and yet still haven't posted on my blog since Christmas. I am pitiful, I know! However, so excited you and Bubs had a weekend away even if you didn't catch one fish. Fun times with the hubby are priceless memories. We were so tickled to keep the newest memeber of the fam, little Ben; who by the way is the most perfect precious child. So sweet, so so so sweet. Love him lots. I did try once to attempt for him to go back to sleep at the wee hours of the morning, but his smiles and laughter made me get up to play with him and sing Benny and the Jets to him. You know my songs make no sense. Ha! Thanks for letting us watch over your sweet babe. Love you lots. Can't wait for the summer.

oh, that's a bummer y'all didn't see anything. I'm glad you were able to spend the weekend together though. Chris and I are thinking about going fishing during our vacation this summer because I've never been.
