Bless this poor turtles heart! Of all the things I imagined this turtle wanted to do today, somehow I don't think being discovered by The Bailey Bunch was it!!
But do you think that stopped this crew?!
Absolutely not!!
Immediately the fascination began!
Not really sure why the children were able to convince me that turtles eat carrots but they did! So out our little bag of carrots came and the many, many, many attempts to feed this poor turtle began!
Before long, the turtle was staring at plenty of delicious carrots to enjoy if he could manage to make a move in front of these 4 little loves!
Just so you know... I don't think turtles like carrots!
Nor do they particularly like little loves toting them around the yard!
But we did that too anyway!
But what turtles REALLY, REALLY, REALLY don't like is when they meet 2 year olds!
Ben was a bit , shall we say, rough with this poor little creature! While I pretty much know for a fact turtles prefer to be placed gently on the ground, Ben thought dropping them was most appropriate! I mean, what this poor turtle must have been thinking! Not only that, but this little loves mouth was so stuffed with our "turtle food" or carrots he couldn't even speak! (Hence the awkward face in this photo!)
Realizing that this poor, poor creature needed to return to his home or his life expectancy was going to be much less, we decided to move the turtle into a laundry basket for safety from Baby Otis (and Ben!) Our plan was to wait until Daddy got home to release him back into the pond!
Soon, the truck bed was full of 4 little loves and 1 anxious turtle!
Before long, Operation Turtle Release was in effect!
I am not lying when I say, the minute Bubba got that turtle near the water, the poor creature sped into the water for his dear life! We stood around watching to see if he would pop up for air and never saw him. However, we did see lots and lots of baby turtles swimming in the pond!
Oh the joys of a summer day in the South!
