Summer Randomness

Despite the fact that I am in complete denial that my summer is coming to a close, I must recognize that it is.  As I look back through the events of the summer, I am reminded that these little loves are active, energetic and in constant search of entertainment!  I am also eternally grateful for the moments of laughter that have come from these random events!  This blog is a total bowl of randomness!
I suppose it proves we are just the plain ol' real family who do goofy things, we appreciate the small things and enjoy being together!

Golf Cart Trips!  How essential are these when you live (or visit) the country!  The golf cart holds magical powers that make small crying, fussy or whiny children temporarily stop their craziness and chill for a bit!  Thanks to my oh-so-efficient photographer, this is the only picture I have to show for the many of these that have been taken this summer!

Naps!  For the tired mommy on summer break, for the mommy in need of peace and quiet on a random afternoon, for the children who go 900 miles a minute yet they insist they are full of energy... a nap is crucial for summertime!  Being snuggled up to a preciousness like this while dozing off only makes it that much better!

"Red Car"  Ben's fascination with colors is very present these days and has been all summer!  After receiving this "red car", Ben carried it everywhere with him.  He had to have it 24/7.  One lovely day, while attempting to entertain my little loves by looking at the fish in the Glencarin Garden pond, "red car" went for more than just a visit- he went to stay forever!!  The event was traumatic.  I was with all 4 kids by myself and while I am pretty sure I could have rescued the poor "red car" from the pond, all I could envision was me going in head first to rescue "red car" and then what... I would be the wet mom standing in the garden all for the ever so loved "red car"?!  While I certainly would have, my common sense kicked in when I realized I was minutes away from Target.
To this day, the poor child still talks about this.  He will quickly tell you the goldfish ate his "red car" in the water!  If he only knew the great lengths me and his brother went through to attempt to get this car without soaking ourselves!  What a day!

Pool Break!  This summer the pool has been a wonderful place to entertain the little loves!  Diving boards,  learning how to do cannon balls, having underwater handstand contest, and especially for mommy, a nice refreshing Mommy Drink to cool off those ridiculously hot temperatures!

Friends, Food and Fun!  The new house has provided a wonderful spot for our special friends and family to get together!  What happens when you put a group of precious girls together in a playroom?  The Princess and Ballerinas come out!!  I am so thankful my girls have great princess and ballerinas to play dress up with!

Oh wait... MORE NAPS!!!  and BEACH NAPS at that!!  Is there a better nap than the nap you take on a beach house couch?!  For these 2 the answer on this day was a solid NOPE!

Dance Parties!!  Gotta love the after supper dance parties that just somehow seemed to happen this summer!  Thanks to our creativity, our need to entertain little ones and the secret desire of some of the adult (certainly not Kasie and Mandi!) there were several of these parties on porches and in the kitchen over Garden City Beach Week!  This group of fine dancers invented moves like "The Milk", "The Sunshine" and "The Thunder and Lightning" which were popular dance choices for many songs.  But the dance moved that received all the recognition was a move created especially by the father of my children!  This move will probably show up on the dance floor of Bess' wedding and thanks to Bess' expert teaching abilities, most (if not all) of her family members can participate!

I give you evidence of just how tempting this move is!  EVERYBODY wanted in on the fun of learning "The Motor Cycle!"
(Actually, as I look at this picture, I realize this probably makes most people go - Huh?  What is she talking about?!  I wish I could have video taped this night... trust me, seeing 6 little loves and at least 4 adults squat on their pretend motorcycle while revving their hands on their pretend motorcycle handlebars, with the top hits of today blaring on a small speaker while their 87 year old great grandfather and grandfather stood patiently near by silently praying for this dance party to end... I promise... this is a night we all will remember!)

The Shoes!!  I really don't know that there are words for this.  My dad, is always known to show my sister and I the latest trends in shoe fashion!  Normally for his beach week shoe attire we are graced with the most incredible pair of sand/water shoes known to man.  He likes to wear them while near us so we can be as cool as he is!!!  Dad, the jokester that he is, showed up to Pawleys Island wearing these shoes to see if Katherine and Jeffery would approve of them for the upcoming wedding!  It was the best way to start off another great week of family fun and laughter!

I still laugh when I think about he looked walking up those stairs in his preppy pink shorts, rolled up polo shirt and then these fine beauties on his feet!  I think the socks actually make the statement even more proof of his exquisite taste!!

"Ben's Bump"  Although this memory is not one I have particularly loved having to deal with, we in fact have.  Ben's bump is known by many and the prayers and sweet thoughts that so many have lifted up for Ben are innumerable!  This picture is moments before his CT scan!  I don't think it was possible to be holding a baby tighter than I was at that moment!  While Ben has made it through so much when it comes to his bump, we are still anxious and ready to have answers for our sweet little love!

Hotness!!  This summer, I got to inform Amy and Mandi, that although it would be slap during the middle of a work week, we would all be seeing this gorgeous fellow together in concert!  No boys, just girls and Adam!  Life will be rough on September 11th!!

The Wine Tour!!  So what happens when 4 wine drinking wives buy wine tours for themselves and their hubbies on Living Social... oh, the wine tour gets over booked and results in a SundayFunday for the entire group!!  That would be the way it played out for this group!  While some of our group was overjoyed to know their day of wine tasting was NOT going to happen, others were a bit upset!  All in all, a day (a long day)  of fun (probably too much fun) was had with friends!  Who needed a wine tour anyway!!

Visor Discovery!  Thanks to those afternoon strolls through the quaint shops of Pawleys Island, Katherine and I discovered THE BEST EVER beach visor!  I wish I could say this one is mine but sadly, it is not!  While on this particular night, I did find it necessary to wear it as my evening fashion statement!  Such a crucial and essential piece to a girls beach attire and we discovered one that was sweat proof, light and bendy!!  LOVE this!  Hope your's doesn't go missing Katherine!

Cupcake Decorating 101!  Although this event was messy with a capital M... these 2 little loves worked so hard on the cupcakes they decorated for their daddy on his birthday!  If they only knew that they really only decorated a total of 4 that I kept scraping the icing off of and handing back to them once I realized their was more licking and tasking going on at the decorating table than actual spreading and icing!!  They get an A for effort though!  Love their sweet hearts!

Adventures in Potty Training!  Wish I could say that this summertime project has been a productive one but that would be a big fat negative!!  I have tried to entice these little love with new undies with Buzz, Woody, "Red Car' and Monsters Inc on them but this has made not a single drop of excitement or enthusiasm appear in this kid!  He loves a diaper!   We are working on this but while my other 3 were fairly easy to train, this one is NOT!!

Photo Shoots!  I love, love, love a family photo shoot on Sundays!  This summer we have been excited to begin taking our new photo shoot seasons on our new porch!!

"Shade" Ice and Milkshakes!  Everyone knows the perfect way to cool off on a hot summer day is to stop by and grab a grape "shade" ice (as Charlie would say) and a milkshake!  This discovery has been detrimental to my waistline and diet!  But I am pretty sure the strawberry milkshakes from Cook Out are straight from heaven!  Who knew this deliciousness existed!

Fashion Statements!   Yep folks, here ya go!  This is how we should all show up to the pool-  hands on our hips, cowboy boots on and a sassy swimsuit!  This child's personality does not cease to amaze me!  And if she got any more adorable while doing things such as this, I don't know if I would be able to handle it!  I love her and if ever a little girl had her daddy wrapped, this is her folks... hook line and sinker!!

Bucket Head!  Because all children who have had to endure CT scans and surgery should ride with buckets on their heads while going lightning fast down a driveway!!  Only Ben would think this was hysterical.  Meanwhile, it gives his mother a heart attack!  I promise we watch over our children but this little love is always looking to be the life of a party and clearly at this moment in time, he thinks being a Bucket Head earn you that status!  Just imagine a hysterical giggle coming from underneath the bucket...because that is really the best part!!

As one might conclude, there have been very, very, very few moments of quietness and stillness at this house!  I am so thankful for the patter of these little feet, the squeal of laughter I hear, the smiles that grace their faces and the moments I will cherish forever!

I love you little babies lots and lots!
