I realize this is the first of many pieces of homework that are about to be gracing my evenings! Charlie and Wy were given the homework to decorate a pattern of a child with all their favorite things. I am ashamed to admit that although I received this homework at the beginning of September, it wasn’t until tonight when I decided it had to get done. (Important fact here: it isn’t really due until the end of the month!!! I had some time!! Yes, cutting it close, but time was still there!)
And the thing is, I wasn’t the one who was bound and determined to get the project completed, it was my scholastic child Wylie who so fabulously put the guilt trip on this Mommy! Our conversation went a bit like this:
W: Mommy, we have to do our homework.
M: Alright, lets go upstairs and get our school clothes ready then we will
W: No, but Mommy you will forget.
M: (feeling like my distraction from the conversation was in jeopardy)
Why tonight? Can’t we do it tomorrow?
W: No , because Mommy, we are the only ones without people in our class.
And who wants their babies to be the “only ones” in the classroom! So, quicker than I could even believe I was able to, I whipped out a counter full of decorations! Arts & Crafts time it was!
And so we crafted it up! We decorated, we cut, we glued, we stuck stickers! We made masterpiece people that they are so excited about showing off at school tomorrow!
And of course, we had to have a photo shoot to capture our first “homework” assignment that mom was totally slack on!
Now, Bessie Boo did NOT have this assignment. But do you think she would ever dream of being left out of something Charlie and Wylie were getting to do?! Therefore, she completed her project too!
All Charlie really cared about was having on a Superhero shirt! Mom to the rescue- cut up a coloring book! Check! However, I was able to persuade him to put a few other things on his project that showed what he like. He ended up with carrots (because he likes “cold” ones), a frog (because he caught a frog camping with Daddy) , fireworks (because the Gamecocks shoot fireworks when they score a touchdown) , and even though you can’t see it in the picture, near his feet he had his Batman face sticker too! The kid was proud!
Perfectionist Wylie needed no help with her design! She had it all planned out! She ended up wearing a pink dress (shocker!) and added a hairbow on top to match! She included a flower and watering can (because she waters RahRah’s flowers), a cupcake and tea pot (because that is what she feeds her babies), some seashells (because she loves the beach), some princess stickers (because when she grows up she wants to be Cinderella or Ariel), a christmas tree (because she loves Christmas) and an apple (near her lips) (because she loves to eat apples with peanut butter). There was very little Mom Help on this masterpiece!
And then there was Bess. She refused to let me draw her a body so she began by gluing eyes. Originally a happy face was at some point turned into a frown! She added her house (because she loves her bed) and LOT and LOTS of Dora stickers. The child wanted no other stickers but Dora! But yet again, we ended with a child so proud of her work! Which makes this momma happy!
So, the clean up crew arrived, teeth were brushed, kids were put to bed and in addition to a full day of duties, Arts and Crafts Homework Time somehow managed to get checked off the list!
Whew….
