Many kids have a favorite toy, or a favorite book, or a favorite baby doll. While my sweet and totally adorable Ben Ben has his foo foo and his blue blanket , his most favorite thing in the entire world is...
The Color Red!
When I say to you that Ben LOVES RED , I mean every single word of it! While there are so many examples of his obsession I could share with you, I have chosen tonight to only highlight the most hysterical for the sake of never forgetting!
Evidence of RED obsession #1: EL Fudge Rainbow cookies
Most children LOVE these cookies! Who wouldn't?! An M&M in a perfectly baked cookie! But my little color obsessive child sees this cookies entirely different than the rest of the world! To Ben, these cookies are called "RED cookies". Give him a "RED" cookie and the kid is all smiles! (Of course he is always in a RED shirt if he can weasel his way into one!!!!)
This discovery of the obsession of RED moving into the territory of cookie eating is a fairly new discovery! I handed Ben 2 cookies the other night and he said "No, not that one!" Really, I didn't think much of it until I handed him 2 more cookies and he responded the same way. "Don't like that one Mommy!" Then it dawned on me!! I was giving him cookies WITHOUT red on them! Oh, Silly Me!!!
As a result, I ended up with several rows in the container of cookies Ben would eat and cookies Ben would not eat!!!
Because all great parents feed their 2 year olds multiple cookies in the evening, Ben might have had more than 2 that night! Eventually, we ran out of the solid RED cookies and were left with the mixture ones! Thinking, ah- we are good, it still has red on it, I handed it to Ben. He quickly saw red, ran away and ate it. Quickly he would return asking for another and I may or may not have obliged and given him another! Off he goes and 2 seconds later, he was back.
By now, I was beginning to think, how in the world are you eating these so fast! At the same time, I also wandered into the den where I found the evidence of his obsession!
This is how Ben deals with the color mixture cookies in the cookie batch! Just eat the RED piece and that cookie is DONE!
All I could do was laugh. Oh Ben! You are one of a kind!
Evidence of RED obsession #2 : The Spanking Spoon
Bubba recently went out of town for a few days. A very long few days in my world! Ben knew of Bubba's absence and felt it most appropriate to make bedtime as difficult as possible for this very tired and busy momma!!!
This particular night, Ben and I had been going at bedtime for about 2 1/2 hours. It was after 10 and I was so ready to be done for the day! He was not giving in though. I would put him down, he would creep back out. I would crack the door because "I scared Mommy" was all I was hearing! And on and on and on and on!! FInally, I was really REALLY done! I had had it.
So in I went with my trusty ol' Spanking Spoon. (Really, this is a more threat piece than anything. Rarely have we had to use this trusty spoon because the fear of the spanking spoon is usually enough!)
As I prepared to barely tap this little diaper padded hiney, Ben is saying "No, No, No Mommy!" (Me: I am thinking- "Oh yeah, now you are sorry for all this craziness with bedtime!!!" But before I could even say anything this is how Ben avoided his pop.
In his adorable voice he said "No Mommy! Not with that 'poon! RED 'poon!"
And then my moment of authority was gone. I was quickly turned into a giggling mess so amazed that my 2 year old was so in love with RED, he felt it so important to have a RED 'poon pop him!
Evidence of RED obsession #3: Ben's Christmas List
With the holiday season approaching, a common topic is often what Ben would like Santa to bring him.
Tonight as I rocked Ben, I asked him this question.
His list currently contains the following:
1. A big RED car
2. A RED basket
3. A RED bed
4. RED curtains
5. RED pajamas
6. and I quote on this one: "But not RED hair Mommy!"
My list for this obsession could go on and one!
- He eats only RED suckers
for that matter RED cupcakes at school too!
- He insisted on RED sheets being put on his crib mattress despite them being a twin size
- He only got RED starburst in his Halloween bucket
- When trick or treating he asked for RED candy
- He asked this weekend to go to the moon so he could see a RED star
- He refused a pumpkin at the pumpkin patch because "It not RED" and wouldn't touch it
- He only wants "RED" milkshakes (which are really pink-strawberry but whatever!)
- He only colors with the color RED when given a choice
And don't even get me going about how many RED cars we have at this house. Everyone while it looks the same is actually different to Ben. We have "Dirty RED car", "RED car with yellow wheels", "RED car with leaves", "shiny RED car"...
and the list goes on and on... seriously!
We have a serious addiction on our hands friends! One that I find adorable at times but extremely inconvenient at times also! I have no idea why this obsession has grown to the level it has but this child loves RED and when I say LOVES RED I 100% mean it!
Thank you Ben for being such a character! Our house is always giggling because of you!!
