Thank You Mr. Potato Head

I know all moms have the moment where they say “Oh, you looked just like your sister.”  or “I remember when your brother use to do that!”.   While I have 4 kids, and you would think I would say that often, after stopping to think about it, I don’t say those lines enough.  I live in the moment always saying I never want to forget, but when I thought about those 2 sentences, I realized, I don’t go back enough and just “think” and “savor” those little moments like I should.  I take for granted my blog books and don’t read them as often as I should.

That being said, I was reminded of one of the most laughter filled nights we have had as a family a few nights ago.

Back in the day, Charlie and Wylie were obsessed with Mr. Potato Head.  One random night, our supper experiences quickly evolved into a mock new report blog that we still giggle over.  Breaking News  .  You may remember from that post a little girl who looked like this…

Somehow these Mr. Potato Head glasses have survived and are now experiencing another Bailey Bunch toddler.  Only this time, it isn’t our little diva wearing them, it appears our littlest man has claimed them as his own!

This just makes me giggle.  Though it was years apart, these 2 babies wanted these glasses to do exactly the same thing.  They  both wanted to sport these glasses while playing at the same time and that my friends, just wasn’t going to happen.  For both these loves, the tempers flared up, the tears of frustration fell and in the end Mr. Potato Head got his glasses back.

But in the meantime, I quickly snapped a picture because the moment I saw Ben putting these glasses on, my heart went immediately back to that night with Wylie.

Has it really been 3 years since I snapped that pic of Wylie?  Is time really passing this quickly?

Put the brakes on friends, I am enjoying these days too much…

Who knew I would need to say thank you to  Mr. Potato Head for allowing me to be reminded to stop and play more, be silly more and treasure these little moments to their fullest!

On Repeat…

I already know this post will be hard for others to “hear”.  And I mean that literally.  Because you indeed need to truly hear Ben’s ever repeating line to get the whole entire adorableness of this but… I shall try to explain and capture the memory!

Ben’s vocabulary has taken off at lightning speed this past month.  Everyday he has new words he is saying and new sentences he impresses me with!  On one hand, I love hearing his new little phrases but on the other hand, I am sad he is so quickly growing up.

Lately, Ben has had 2 phrases, that when I say the child repeats them, I am not by any means exaggerating.  While we all enjoyed the festiveness of Christmas, Ben clearly enjoyed it more than I realized because everyday since our Christmas Tree came down and left out our backdoor, we have been reminded of 2 things.

“Momma.”

“What buddy?”

“Ho Ho Ho  Bye Bye.”

   “Kiss Mas Tee Bye Bye.”

Tonight, thanks to a discarded cell phone Ben discovered in a drawer, Santa got about 200 hundred reminders that Ben is deeply saddened by his disappearance.

The poor child carried around this phone and repeated over and over his 2 precious little sentences about a million times.

I realize this is nothing to most people.  But it is the innocence and sincerity with which Ben informs me of Ho Ho Ho and the Kiss Mas Tee being gone that is precious.  Out of the blue, while doing the most ordinary of tasks,  this child will yell for my attention and say

“Momma. Ho Ho Ho Bye Bye.”

“Momma. Kiss Mas Tee Bye Bye.”

And I just look back at him, smile and say “I know buddy.  Ho Ho Ho went bye bye and Christmas Tree went bye bye.”

Just like that , he is gone in a flash and back to his busy work.  It is like I just needed my daily reminder of this fact then he can move on with his business.

Only, my daily reminder is actually given to me about 10 times from my arrival home from school until bedtime!

Is it crazy, awful or strange that I already miss these days and these little phrases?

Crazy for some Costumes

These days, this scene is all too familiar at my house!

Thanks to the recent raid on the discount Halloween costume section of a local Walmart…these kids are crazy for some costumes!  Really, it is just the masks.  We are officially addicted around here!  As Bubba refers to us… meet the Bailey Avengers!  Complete with 2 Spiders Men, an Elmo wearing Iron Man and a Dora Hulk.  The total package!

So this seems to be what happens around our house about 6:30.  Mommy and Daddy clean up messes and low and behold, the Avengers come out to play!   Clearly we are settling down in preparation for our peaceful night of sleep!

But how is this little one not the cutest thing ever?  He doesn’t have one clue that he is the wee little on the bunch.  He hangs in there like a trooper with these other 3.

Yes, he can even shoot webs!!DSC_0042

Since this has seemed like a nightly routine over the holiday break, tonight was no exception.

Again my little loves decked themselves in Superhero masks for a night of crazy giggles!

I even decided to get in on the action!

All the while, while chaos is surrounding the upstairs of my house, there is a certain someone just soaking it all in.  A loyal and large part of our family… and when we play as a family, we should all get to be apart of the action.

Allow me to introduce IronOtis.

Overwhelmingly thrilled with his superhero gear, this trooper stuck through the entire show.  He just laid in the floor and sucked it up.  Bless his bones!

Now that is a good dog!

Should anyone feel in need of some superpower, stop on by about 6:30.  There seems to be an abundance over here most nights!

Oh the joys of preschoolers, costumes and a good ol’ dog!
