Gingerbread Success!

Yummy! Messy! Fun!
That was Charlie, Wylie and Bess' day in a nutshell! Today, the troops were gathered and we headed to Aunt Lucy's house for her annual Gingerbread Decorating Extravaganza! Our crew was ready for the action.

Charlie chose his hat wear from the multitude of choices he keeps in my car. No joke. HE chose the antlers! How fitting!

Charlie was off like a wild man ready to "play" as he ran up to the front door!

But once inside, it was a different story! My wild man suddenly became like his cautious sister and wouldn't leave my side. I was beginning to wonder if we would even decorate a gingerbread house at this rate! When is Charlie ever shy?! Not sure what this was all about!

Sweet Bess was just being her usual wonderful self. Left alone to hang out in the floor! Looking adorable!

Finally the decorating began. Like last year, Rah Rah joined us to help man the troops. We both agreed last year was a little easier than this year! Mom was Bess' right hand man ...

and even helped Bess enjoy her first taste of real homemade icing!

Charlie and Wylie were amazed at all of the "owls" or bowls filled with the yummy treats! M&M's, Fruit Loops, Gumdrops... it was sugar heaven!

Please note just how few Fruit Loops Charlie actually has on his roof. For every 1 he would put on, he ate about 10!

But does this look like the face of a child who was bored or in need of entertainment?

Wylie, Mrs. Rule Follower, wanted to do the activity as planned! She was very into the icing. We had a quick tutorial before I turned her loose!

Then, it was icing, icing, icing from there!

She became such an icing professional she even showcased her work on her brother's house!

Shortly after Wylie disappeared. She reappeared with a giant decorated cookie! Look at the sheer happiness on this child's face! Priceless!

In 1 hour, my family was able to drop numerous amount of crumbs, cereal and candy on the floor, make a great deal of racket and noise and require 3 trips to load our car with the assistance of others! It was far from a dull event!

When we returned home, Charlie was OBSESSED with carrying his gingerbread house around so he could play and eat it at the same time.
Well, it was bound to happen...and it did!

Never fear, 5 second rule! Plus mom just vacuumed! Eat it anyways!

Like any true gentleman would do, he also invited his sister! How thoughtful!

Gingerbread House building 2009 was a success! I couldn't help but look at the the other children's houses and compare their work of art to what I was going home with! One day we too shall make windows out of peppermints and trees out of gum drops! Until then, I totally loved being covered in icing and smelling like gumdrops! A perfect way to spend my Saturday! Thank you Lucy and Burns for a WONDERFUL afternoon!
